OUR ALUMNI OPINIONS

Alper Durmaz

In 2017, I took my first step into university life by enrolling in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of International Trade and Finance (English). Throughout my university years, I had the opportunity to develop myself both academically and socially.

The opportunities provided by our university and the support of our distinguished professors played a significant role in helping me plan my future and become the professional I am today. After several fulfilling academic years, I started working at Metro Türkiye as an FSD Customer Manager shortly after graduation.
Metro is an international retail company operating in more than 30 countries. In my role, we aim to become the primary business partner of HORECA (Hotel, Restaurant, Café) businesses by providing them with all the products and services they need to grow and improve their operations.

My main responsibilities include increasing the revenue, profitability, basket size, and order frequency of my existing customer portfolio; acquiring potential new customers; and responding effectively to customer needs, demands, and complaints with the right offers at the right time. Building long-term customer relationships and ensuring customer loyalty are among our key objectives.

My role requires strong communication and presentation skills, along with the ability to manage operational processes, take calculated risks, and implement strategic decisions effectively. While fulfilling these responsibilities, I often recall the courses we took at university, the case analyses we discussed, the seminars delivered by industry leaders, and the corporate company visits we participated in. The case studies we analyzed on paper have proven to be highly effective in real-life problem-solving, both professionally and personally.

Attending classes regularly and maintaining academic discipline are certainly important. However, listening firsthand to the experiences of leading entrepreneurs, executives, and company owners provides invaluable insight and career inspiration. Corporate visits not only make us think, “Could I work at this company one day?” but also inspire us to ask, “Why shouldn’t I establish a company like this myself?”

University education is not limited to academic knowledge alone. It is a multifaceted environment where every student can shape their own path according to their interests and talents, while receiving proper guidance along the way. Our university has provided tremendous support in this regard and has positively influenced me and many of my fellow graduates in becoming well-equipped individuals who contribute meaningfully to society and our country.

I sincerely wish you to experience the same inspiration and success in your own journey.
Best regards,

2018 Since the day I joined the Kültür University family in 2018, I had no doubt that I would have a productive and fulfilling university experience. I was truly excited about this new chapter of my life.

Although a certain period of my university years coincided with the pandemic, we were able to complete our courses and semesters thoroughly and successfully thanks to the regular, well-structured, and systematic teaching process, as well as the great dedication of our professors. Our lecturers stood by us with a sense of family warmth, guiding us and setting the best examples to prepare us for the future. They never withheld their support and experience.
Thanks to their encouragement and guidance, I had the opportunity to complete my education earlier than expected, enjoying every step of the journey without difficulty. I graduated early from the Department of International Trade and Finance at Istanbul Kültür University with great pride, and I have made it my personal mission to represent IKU in the best possible way in my professional life.

As a result, I have been able to continue my career in a successful, disciplined, solution-oriented, and well-organized manner. Moreover, one of the most valuable people in my life also became part of my journey thanks to IKU, which makes the university even more special to me. I began my journey at Kültür University in 2019 and proudly completed it in 2023. For me, Kültür University was much more than just a school — it was an incredible experience. From the moment I met our highly qualified and dedicated professors, I knew I had made the right decision.

The engaging flow of our classes and the continuous in-class activities designed to keep us active and involved made our learning experience both dynamic and enjoyable. I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank our professors for their efforts and dedication.

I took one of the most important steps in my career with the support of Meri Hoca. Through her reference, I had the opportunity to complete an internship at a reputable company. This experience allowed me to outline a clear vision for my future career path. I would like to express my endless gratitude to her, both for her support and for being someone who is truly passionate about her profession and her students.

I would also like to extend my sincere thanks and respect to all the professors at Kültür University who work tirelessly to broaden their students’ horizons.

I began my undergraduate education in the Department of International Trade and Finance at Istanbul Kültür University with a 75% WeAccept Scholarship and graduated successfully.

During my academic journey, I served as the Vice President of the Istanbul Kültür University Dance Club for two years. This experience enhanced my organizational abilities while strengthening my teamwork and leadership skills.

After graduation, as someone who values social engagement and communication, I actively took part in various events and trade fairs. These projects not only contributed to my personal development but also increased my interest in organizational and operational roles. I firmly believe that the knowledge and experience I gained at my university and in my department will continue to guide me throughout my career journey.

In 2024, I graduated as the top-ranked student of my faculty and the English International Trade Department. Throughout this journey, our professors—who were always approachable, supportive, and helpful—made this five-year adventure much more enjoyable and productive.

My advice to new students is to view university not only as an academic experience but also as a personal development journey. Take advantage of opportunities, do not be afraid of new experiences, and continue to improve yourself by reading and exploring your interests. While focusing on your studies, do not neglect social activities. Learn as much as you can, but also enjoy every moment of this unique period in your life!

Selin Mercan

Hello,

I graduated from the Department of International Trade and Finance in 2022. While continuing my Double Major Program (Business Administration), I observed that my primary department placed a strong emphasis on logistics courses throughout my education. Since approximately 90% of the curriculum was related to logistics, I believe I gained a solid practical foundation in this field.

After graduation, I began working at a logistics company, where I had the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge I acquired during my studies to real business processes. This experience enabled me to better understand logistics operations and the dynamics of international trade, allowing me to adapt quickly to professional life.

My academic background and professional experience have allowed me to closely follow developments in both logistics and trade, and to work effectively at the intersection of these two fields.

I would also like to sincerely thank my esteemed professors who guided and supported me throughout my education. Thanks to their expertise and mentorship, I was able to better understand how theoretical knowledge translates into practice. In addition, their guidance and professional connections during my job search process helped me take my first career steps more smoothly.

In 2020, with both the stress of the pandemic and the university entrance exam, I was searching for an opportunity where I could express myself and turn my dreams and abilities into a real advantage for my future. During this time, I learned about Istanbul Kültür University’s “WeAccept” Scholarship.

By introducing myself, my interests, and my project, I earned an 85% scholarship in the department I truly wanted—at a university that I now proudly say was one of my best decisions. Having my effort and potential recognized during such a stressful period was an invaluable feeling for me. By combining this scholarship with the First Choice Scholarship, I was able to receive nearly a 90% total scholarship, which made my tuition very affordable.

After passing the English Preparatory School exemption exam, I began my studies in the Department of International Trade and Finance (English). Even though my first year was conducted remotely, it quickly became a department I genuinely enjoyed studying in. I believe that the strength of our academic staff, receiving 100% English education, and the department’s broad range of courses—such as Marketing, Banking, Logistics, Import-Export, and many more—will provide me with valuable opportunities in my professional career.

I also had the chance to be part of one of the largest student clubs at IKU, the Career Club, where I contributed to organizing major events such as Career Days and the Career Honor Awards. Being part of such a strong team spirit was an unforgettable experience.

Without a doubt, my greatest “I’m so glad” moment was the Erasmus+ opportunity provided by our university. In the spring semester of my fourth year, I studied in Poland at the State University of Applied Sciences in Konin with Erasmus+ grant support. It was a unique experience where I traveled to 15 countries, explored different cultures, and continued my education in an international environment.

I would like to sincerely thank all my department professors, the Erasmus Office, and my university for their continuous support. If I had to choose again, I would proudly choose Kültür once more.

In 2019, I began my academic journey in the Department of International Trade at Istanbul Kültür University. My university years were both academically enriching and personally transformative. In 2022, I completed a Minor Program in Psychology, which allowed me to gain a broader and more multidimensional perspective.

Throughout my education, I took on leadership roles as a board member and president in Express Bilim and the IKU Mountaineering Club. These experiences significantly strengthened my team management and leadership skills. During this time, thanks to the valuable contributions of my professors, I also had the opportunity to meet prominent professionals from the industry.

My Erasmus experience taught me what it means to live and conduct business in different geographical and cultural environments. With the guidance of our professors, I learned to use the Evrim software, which plays an important role in customs operations. I also became a member of professional organizations such as CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport) and DIŞYÖNDER, both of which hold a significant place in the fields of international trade and logistics. These experiences helped me expand my professional network and increase my sectoral awareness.

The comprehensive education I received—covering both theoretical and practical aspects of international trade—was further enriched through field visits. In addition, I completed internships in different departments each year, giving me the opportunity to apply my knowledge in real business environments.

After graduation, I decided to become part of the supply chain in the printing and packaging industry. Currently, I manage both domestic and international operations of our family business. Every day, I feel the strong advantages of the knowledge and competencies I gained during my university education.
Istanbul Kültür University provided me not only with a profession but also with a broader vision for life. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all my professors and friends who contributed to this journey.

I have always taken pride in receiving the reward for years of hard work, patience, and determination. Studying in a dynamic and global field such as International Trade not only provided us with academic knowledge but also equipped us with analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to evaluate the world from a broader perspective.

I would like to sincerely thank my family for their constant support, my esteemed professors for sharing their knowledge and experience, and my friends who made this journey even more meaningful. During my university years, I had to work alongside my studies, and my professors were incredibly supportive in this regard. I also pursued my education during the pandemic, which was an especially challenging time as I was working as a healthcare professional. Despite these difficulties, I was able to continue my studies thanks to the flexibility and understanding provided by my professors.

My department offered various scholarship opportunities and internship programs, and our faculty ensured that students were supported in every possible way. Even during the COVID period, I was able to experience an enjoyable and productive academic life. Additionally, I was given the opportunity to pursue a double major. Today, I proudly carry not only my undergraduate degree but also the accomplishment of completing my legal internship and earning my law degree.
In the future, I hope to make a meaningful impact in the business world by applying everything we have learned and turning our dreams into reality. I wish all of us a career filled with success and achievement.

İdris Yusuf

In 2017, after attending the promotional events of many universities in Istanbul, I made my decision to become part of the Kültür family. Throughout my academic journey, I clearly saw how right that decision was. With the support of my professors, the vibrant campus life, and the friendships I built, I experienced five truly fulfilling years.

I spent wonderful times during my preparatory year and four years in the International Trade Department. Although one and a half years of our education coincided with the pandemic, the friendships I formed, the education I received, and the seminars I attended made my university experience both meaningful and enriching.

After graduating from the department, I chose to continue my education at Kültür by pursuing a master’s degree—something I also wholeheartedly recommend to prospective students. My Kültür journey, which began in 2017, is now crowned with my master’s studies in 2025. My sincere greetings and thanks to my professors, the university staff, and all members of the Kültür family!

Işılsu Becerir

Dear Professors and Dear Students,

The knowledge we gained and the opportunities provided by our university allowed me to acquire invaluable life experiences. Thanks to the dedication of our professors and the educational opportunities offered by our university, I was able to continuously improve myself. The knowledge and experience we gained throughout our academic journey have become the fundamental building blocks that shape our lives. Graduation is not only the end of classes but also the beginning of new adventures.

There may be challenges along the way, but we should remember that every challenge presents new opportunities. One of the first such opportunities for me was starting my career at Decathlon Türkiye as a Demand & Supply Planner. My goal was to manage short-, medium-, and long-term demand and business planning for incoming products, ensuring the optimization of national revenue and sales volumes.

After 2.5 years in this role, I continued my career as a Country Group Availability Leader. In this position, my objective has been to ensure integration among various departments (Supply, Warehouse, Customs, Store Operations, Marketing, IT, etc.) and to manage stock availability strategies across B2B, B2C, and e-commerce platforms for the group under my responsibility.

With nearly three years of experience in this field, I continue my career journey with enthusiasm and fulfillment. To achieve our goals, we must work with determination, believe in ourselves, and never give up.
Respectfully,

Işılsu Becerir (She/Her)
